Woman identified in deadly head-on crash on Highway 11 in Volcano

HAWAII ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) – The woman who died in a head-on crash Monday on Highway 11 in Volcano has been identified.

The Hawaii Police Department identified the driver as Laura Walker, 76, of Volcano.

Puna patrol officers said Walker was killed when her Honda CR-V crossed the center line and collided with a Dodge Ram near the 22-mile marker shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Walker’s identity was held until her family was notified. Police said she was unresponsive at the scene and was pronounced dead a short time later.

The 60-year-old man driving the Dodge Ram was not injured.

Police said speed, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors. An autopsy will be conducted to determine Walker’s exact cause of death.

This marks Hawaii Island’s 19th traffic fatality of 2026, compared with 14 at the same time last year.
