Woman dies after scuba diving incident off Kewalo Basin

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 73-year-old woman died Sunday after suffering an apparent medical emergency while scuba diving off Kewalo Basin.

The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department said crews responded around 8:24 a.m. to reports of an unresponsive scuba diver aboard a dive vessel offshore of Kewalo Basin.

Lifeguards located the vessel, boarded the boat and began providing emergency care, including CPR, as it returned to shore.

When the boat arrived at the Kewalo Basin fuel dock, care was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel.

Officials said the woman was taken to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said the woman appeared to have suffered a medical emergency while scuba diving. No signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances were observed.
