2 rescued in Kalihi house fire, investigation underway

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Two people were safely rescued after a fire broke out at a Kalihi home Monday afternoon.

The Honolulu Fire Department said crews responded to a report of a residential fire on Gulick Avenue at about 12:50 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the front of a one-story home with multiple sublevels. During a search of the residence, crews located two occupants on a lower level and escorted them to safety. Firefighters also rescued the family’s dogs from the home.

The fire was brought under control at about 1:30 p.m. and fully extinguished 10 minutes later.

Emergency Medical Services treated the two occupants at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage estimates have not yet been released.
