State begins flood mitigation work in West Oahu
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii Department of Transportation will begin emergency flood mitigation work Monday in an area of the Waianae Coast that was hit hard by the March Kona lows.

Contractors will work on Pa’akea Road from Morse Street to Apana Road. That’s where dips in the road caused water to pool near Apana Road following the storms.
Starting today, crews will install aqua cells to divert and hold water off the roadway. The area will be limited to local traffic during work hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, excluding holidays.

It’s one of two problem areas identified by contractors.
The state is conducting a drainage study to address the other area, from Mikilua Grocery to the Feed and Farm Supply.
