Coast Guard watchstanders were notified of a Personal Locator Beacon alert shortly before 2 p.m., indicating positions along West Oahu and issued an urgent marine information broadcast.
The Coast Guard said that around 3:30 p.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew located the men sitting on the overturned boat and wearing life jackets.

USCG then safely hoisted them and brought them to Air Station Barbers Point in Kapolei, and shared a picture of the two men with the helicopter crew after they landed.
“Preparedness can significantly reduce the risks when something goes wrong on the water,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Mykeela Ruff, operations unit watchstander, Oceania District. ”By wearing a life jacket and carrying a PLB on your person, it instantly alerts the Coast Guard to your position, drastically cutting down search times.”
