The Virginia-class fast-attack submarine (SSN 786) underwent major hull and foundational work. Shipyard officials said the undocking took 10 to 12 hours and involved the crew and multiple shipyard teams.

Commissioned in October 2016, the Illinois is homeported at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and supports missions including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, strike warfare, special operations support and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
