Body discovered in Hawaii Island stream

WAIMEA (HawaiiNewsNow) – A decomposing body was discovered in the Waimea area Tuesday morning.

South Kohala patrol officers responded to a report of a body in a stream near the intersection of Kawaihae Road and Hawaii Belt Road around 9:30 in the morning.

Upon arrival, officers located the body in an advanced state of decomposition in a shallow stream, according to initial reports.

Hawaii Island police initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine the person’s identity, sex, and cause of death.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time.
