First Alert Forecast: Lighter trades today, more winds and rain tomorrow
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Trades will ease a little today which may mean more humidity, more clouds along the windward and mauka areas and a little warmer with partly cloudy skies leeward. Starting tonight that changes as the winds pick up with more moisture in the trade wind flow, mostly in the overnight and early morning hours. There will be some enhanced moisture moving thru the island tonight thru Thursday morning with some locally rainfall possible; but the gustier the winds, the more the moistures stays on the move. In addition, humidity levels will rise, making the first half of the work week feel rather muggy across the island chain.

High pressure northeast of Hawaiʻi keeps the usual trade winds blowing, so the pattern stays pretty steady this week. Right now it’s cloudier and showery on the windward and mauka sides, while leeward areas will be mostly partly cloudy, though a few showers can drift over at times. Trades will be moderate to breezy tonight, ease a bit Sunday, then stay mostly moderate through late next week. Most showers will keep favoring windward and mauka areas, especially overnight and early morning, but two “wetter-than-normal” patches of moisture will pass through: one from tonight into Monday, and another Tuesday night into early Thursday, which could bring heavier bursts of rain in spots and a small chance of minor flooding (not widespread flash flooding). It’ll also feel more humid starting Monday as the air gets “muggier”.
The current small, long period south swell will peak today, before gradually declining through the first half of next week. Surf along east facing shores will remain rough and choppy with a slight decline possible early next week due to minor fluctuations of our trades. Surf heights along north facing shores will remain small to tiny through the first half of next week.
