The 55,000-square-foot building includes double-height playcourts, seating for 1,500 spectators, a concession stand, a mat room, a weight training room, locker rooms, classrooms and athletic offices.
School officials say the $35 million facility represents years of planning, partnership, and a commitment to students, faculty, and the community.
“The gymnasium will serve not only Roosevelt students and families but also our broader community as a place for learning, competition, gathering, and connection,” said Melissa Kim, Roosevelt teacher and ceremony emcee.
“It’s been so many hours and just so many hands who’ve been involved with this whole project,” said principal Sean Wong. “This is no longer just a blueprint… or a construction zone. This is a space where character will be forged, where memories will be made, and where Roosevelt pride will echo for generations to come.”

Officials said the facility is also designed to serve as an enhanced hurricane protection area and resiliency hub that can shelter the community in times of need.
The school will host an open house for the public on July 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The gym is part of a larger master plan to upgrade school facilities across the campus.
Construction is underway on phase two. An $18 million, 8,100 square-foot music building is expected to be completed in 2028.
