The legislation would apply to the U.S. Postal Service facility at 86-014 Farrington Hwy.
U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda, D-Hawaii, introduced the measure in the House, while U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, D, Hawaii, introduced companion legislation in the Senate.
The effort is co-sponsored by U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono and U.S. Rep. Ed Case, along with a bipartisan group of lawmakers.
The bill honors Colleen Hanabusa, a Waianae native and longtime public servant who died March 6. Hanabusa’s career spanned labor law, state leadership, and Congress.

She rose from a local labor attorney to become the first female president of the Hawaii State Senate in 2007 and the first AAPI woman in the nation to serve as a state Senate president, later serving in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Colleen was a trailblazer and mentor who paved the way for so many,” Tokuda said, calling the renaming “a fitting tribute to a leader who inspired a generation and dedicated her life to serving our people with deep aloha.”
“Colleen Hanabusa was one of the most accomplished, skilled, and dedicated public servants of the last several generations in the state of Hawaii,” said Schatz. “This is a fitting memorial to her Waianae roots and enduring impact on our state.”
