Condo balcony collapse injures 6 in Kihei
KIHEI (HawaiiNewsNow) – Six people were injured Sunday after a second-story condo balcony collapsed in Kihei, the Maui Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded around 4:15 p.m. to the 2000 block of S. Kihei Road.
Officials said the balcony of one unit gave way, sending four people to the ground. Two others were trapped on the balcony as it came to rest on top of a rock wall.
Firefighters stabilized the balcony, used a ladder to rescue the two people who were still trapped, and checked for injuries.

Four men and two women, ranging in age from 34 to 53, were hurt, officials said. Injuries ranged from head, neck, back and extremity pain to scrapes and scratches.
Five of the six were taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment, officials said.

Officials did not say what caused the balcony to collapse.
A portion of South Kihei Road was closed for a time as a safety precaution.
