The Westin Maui Resort & Spa in Kaanapali announced it will host a weeklong celebration July 1–6, highlighted by an environmentally-conscious drone show over Kaanapali on July 4.

The organizers said synchronized drones will create aerial formations inspired by Hawaii, the ocean, and America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.

The celebration will also include the return of “flowerworks,” where tropical orchids are dropped from a helicopter above the pool deck in place of fireworks.

“From pioneering the ‘flowerworks’ tradition to introducing a large-scale drone show, we’re reimagining how people celebrate, honoring the occasion while being mindful of our environment and sense of place,” said General Manager Josh Hargrove.

Additional events planned for July 4 include live music, an oceanfront barbecue, keiki activities and cultural programming throughout the week.

The resort will also be offering a special ‘Stars & Stripes Over Maui’ package tied to the celebration.
