The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources said the trail and the surrounding areas would be closed from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m., including the following areas:

Officials said the workday coincides with the sixth annual “E Lei ʻO Pololū” event, which stems from a dream of a lineal descendant to drape a ti leaf lei across the entire valley floor to safeguard iwi kupuna.
PPO has collected lei from the community and is weaving them together.
Residents with questions, concerns or interest in volunteering may contact PPO at [email protected], @protectpololu on Instagram, and Protect Pololū on Facebook.
