The restaurant announced the grand opening will take place at 10 a.m., at 5001 Kapolei Parkway, marking the brand’s first drive-in restaurant on the island.

The ceremony will feature a blessing, opening remarks, and the untying of a maile lei.

The first 10 and 50 customers in both drive-thru and patio/walk-up lines will receive Sonic Hawaii gear. There will also be giveaways, prizes, and live music.

During the opening weekend, to help with traffic flow, service will be limited to drive-thru and patio/walk-up only.

Customer parking will not be available during the opening weekend. There will be limited parking available at Hookele Elementary School.

“This is an exciting moment for us as we officially open our doors and welcome all of Oahu to Sonic,” said Takeo Prather, Head of Growth and Development for Sonic Hawaii.

Following the grand opening, the drive-in will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Ahead of Saturday’s opening, Sonic donated $10,000 to Hookele Elementary and Kapolei High School through its Limeades for Learning initiative, where a portion of all drink sales is donated back to local schools.

The brand first introduced its one-of-a-kind dining experience to the islands in 2023, opening Sonic Kahului on Maui.

Construction officially began following a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony held last April.

“We’ve felt so much excitement from the Hawaii community since opening on Maui, and we’re honored to continue growing on Oahu with the new Kapolei location,” Prather said. “The opening of this location has been a long time coming, and we’re looking forward to welcoming families, friends, and neighbors to come together, enjoy fun local flavors alongside Sonic classics, and create new memories with us.”

Locally owned and operated, the Kapolei drive-in will bring Sonic’s classic curbside experience to life, featuring five drive-in stalls with nostalgic roller-skating carhops delivering made-to-order favorites directly to guests’ vehicles. The location will also include a convenient double drive-thru lane and patio seating.

While bringing the timeless Sonic experience and the brand’s signature drinks, burgers, and craveable favorites, the restaurant will also showcase exclusive “Only in Hawaii” menu offerings, including the Teriyaki Smasher featuring two Angus beef patties layered with cheese, Aloha Shoyu Da Yaki sauce, Teriyaki mayo, lettuce, tomato and onion.

The new SONIC is expected to create more than 100 jobs in the local community. Those interested in joining the team can apply for positions by clicking here.
