The Pacific Housing Assistance Corporation, a nonprofit developer, has completed its final environmental assessment for a 95-unit rental complex on the lower campus of Mililani High School.

The development, Kumelewai Hale, for Hawaii State Department of Education teachers and staff in Mililani, was announced in 2024.

It aims to bring affordable units to the school at below-market value, located across from the Town Center of Mililani.

The housing corporation said the name was chosen based on research and consultation with a cultural practitioner to honor the history of the area and the legacy of education it represents.

The state is pitching in $2 million for pre-development costs.

The developer said the next step is to apply for permits, which they said is a lengthy process.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with teachers able to move into the units in 2030.
