950 acres of Kaneohe Pali land now protected, state officials say
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) — State officials say they are relieved the Kaneohe Pali is now protected.

On Wednesday, officials celebrated after 950 acres, stretching from the Nuuanu Pali lookout to the H-3 Highway, were placed in the state’s care last December.
The property was once considered for development.
Lea Hong, vice president and Hawaii state director for the Trust for Public Land, said the effort took time.

“There were a lot of different programs and bureaucratic hoops to jump through. But in the end, everybody worked together for that same goal,” Hong said.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources will now own and manage the Kaneohe Pali, focusing on restoration and long-term stewardship.
Efforts include managing invasive albizia trees and restoring native forest.
