Episode 47 of Kilauea fountaining begins

HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK (HawaiiNewsNow) – Episode 47 of lava fountaining is underway at Kilauea’s summit.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said fountaining began at 3:27 p.m. and measured about 200 feet high.

Fountaining activity is currently focused on the north vent, though the south vent is continuing to overflow, said USGS.

Winds blowing from the northeast direction suggest that volcanic gas emissions and volcanic material may be blown southwest of Halema’uma’u crater.
