The charges stem from an incident on Kauopua Street on Thursday, June 4, when police said two men, ages 19 and 21, tried to rob a group gathered in a garage during a social dice game.

Investigators said the 19-year-old was armed with a firearm, and was shot and killed during a struggle over the weapon.

The 21-year-old man, who police said accompanied the 19-year-old, was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree robbery.

Two days later, on June 6, police said the investigation revealed three juvenile males — ages 14, 15 and 17 — also participated in the robbery and allegedly took property after the shooting.

On Monday, the case was conferred with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, and petitions were filed in Family Court charging the 14-year-old with four counts of first-degree robbery.

Petitions were also filed charging the 15- and 17-year-olds with fourth-degree theft.

Police previously determined the shooting was self-defense, and prosecutors declined to file murder charges against the man who was initially arrested.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or CrimeStoppers Honolulu at (808) 955-8300.
