6 children, 3 adults injured in crash that closed 3 lanes of H-2 Freeway

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Six children and three adults were taken to the hospital after a crash blocked three northbound lanes of the H-2 Freeway before the Ka Uka Boulevard exit on Saturday.

The crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. after officials said a two-vehicle crash reportedly caused two teens to be tossed from a truck bed.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) reported the blocked lanes at around 4:20 p.m., and Honolulu police, fire and Emergency Medical Services were on scene.

EMS officials said they responded with seven units with multiple paramedics, EMTS and a district chief after an apparent two-vehicle collision involving an apparent assault.

Paramedics treated and transported six children and three adults in various conditions to the hospital:

EMS said the 15- and 13-year-old boys were reported to be in the back of a pick-up truck and were tossed from the vehicle.

The minimum age for riding in a truck bed was recently raised from 12 to 16.

The Honolulu Police Department said it is investigating the crash.

Traffic cameras showed little to no movement at the H-1, H-2 merge, with traffic reaching Pearl City.

As of 5:38 p.m., HDOT said all H-2 lanes have been reopened.

Traffic around the area was stalled for about an hour.
