3 massive all-electric cranes arrive at Honolulu Harbor

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Three massive all-electric container cranes arrived at Honolulu Harbor Wednesday morning after a nearly 2,600-mile journey across the Pacific.

The Noell ship-to-shore cranes traveled from the Port of Long Beach over three weeks, shipped fully upright and intact on an open barge.

Each crane stands between 230 and 250 feet tall — about the height of a 20-story building — and weighs roughly 3.5 million pounds.

“The safe arrival of these cranes is an extraordinary milestone,” said George Pasha IV, president and CEO of The Pasha Group and Pasha Hawaii.

The cranes will be installed at the Kapalama Container Terminal as part of phase two of the $555 million terminal project.

The project is a public-private partnership between the state Department of Transportation Harbors Division, The Pasha Group and Hawaii Stevedores, Inc.

Once complete, the 84-acre terminal will serve as the new operational hub and primary facility for Hawaii Stevedores.

Officials say the terminal is expected to improve the efficiency, safety and reliability of cargo operations while expanding capacity and supporting newer port technology.

Phase two is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, according to the DOT Harbors Division.
