{"id":962,"date":"2026-06-05T05:36:29","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T05:36:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=962"},"modified":"2026-06-05T05:36:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T05:36:29","slug":"lahaina-moves-forward-with-royal-complex-to-honor-hawaiian-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=962","title":{"rendered":"Lahaina moves forward with Royal Complex to honor Hawaiian history"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section>\n<p>LAHAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; This summer marks three years since the deadliest wildfire in modern U.S. history killed more than 100 people and erased the historic town of Lahaina.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=960\">Man charged for allegedly beating pregnant girlfriend, child<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, plans are moving forward with the town\u2019s Royal Complex Master Plan, an effort to transform the historic area into one of the world\u2019s most significant sacred cultural places.<\/p>\n<p>A blessing for the area signified the start of a new era for Lahaina, one that honors the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe think about Moku\u02bbula, Mokuhinia, that is one of the most significant sites in Hawaii, and when we think about the sacredness of the space, we want to make sure that people can visit, the mannerisms in which they visit,\u201d said Kapono\u02bbai Molitau, the county\u2019s Director of \u02bb\u014ciwi Resources.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The plans were first announced at the Lahaina Community Monthly Disaster Recovery Meeting Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Molitau said feedback has been positive so far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have an opportunity to create new storyboards,\u201d Molitau said. \u201dWhen we think about the history of Lahaina prior to the fire, it was really whaling era, missionary era.
