HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A man accused of attacking his pregnant girlfriend and their 2-year-old child was arrested and charged.<\/p>\n

On May 20, Hawaii Island police were called to a domestic incident at a Lehua Street home. <\/p>\n

According to police reports, Chezare Christopher Torres, 43, of Hilo, allegedly hit his six-month-pregnant, 29-year-old girlfriend multiple times to her face, causing bruising and swelling to the bridge of her nose while in the presence of their 2-year-old and 16-month-old children. <\/p>\n

Police reports also said Torres allegedly hit the 2-year-old with a baseball cap multiple times to the right arm and forehead, causing redness and swelling.<\/p>\n

Torres was arrested on May 28 after police obtained a warrant of arrest.<\/p>\n

The County of Hawaii Office of the Prosecuting Attorney said Torres made his first court appearance in Hilo on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Torres was charged with:<\/p>\n

The office said that the most serious offense, felony abuse, a Class C felony, which carries a penalty of either a five-year prison term or five years\u2019 probation and up to one year in jail.<\/p>\n

Terres\u2019 bail was maintained at $85,000.<\/p>\n
