HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Twelve high school athletes were inducted into the Hawaii Hall of Honor this past weekend, including Campbell High graduate Ashlyn Jacobsen.<\/p>\n

The six-time OIA champion in track and cross country has shattered records at the school.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou meet people and they\u2019re like \u2018Oh my god, you\u2019re that one girl\u2019 and I\u2019m like, \u2018Yes I am, I\u2019m so happy that you know that,\u2019\u201d said Jacobsen.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have the school record in the 800, the 1,500, the 3K, the 5K and the 4×8. My team holds the school record for that,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Jacobsen is also a three-time state champion in the 3,000-meter race.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s probably my proudest one,\u201d said Jacobsen.<\/p>\n

Ashlyn\u2019s mom, Danielle Jacobsen, added, \u201cWe\u2019re like, \u2018Could she do it? Like could she actually? And then it\u2019s like immediately like she just did it. She just won states.\u201d<\/p>\n

While her talent is undeniable, Danielle Jacobsen says it wasn\u2019t always that way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tried out a couple of different sports, but she wasn\u2019t very coordinated and she wasn\u2019t really good at any of them so she did a couple of 5Ks when she was younger and she was winning for her age group,\u201d said Danielle Jacobsen.<\/p>\n

It was then Jacobsen decided to pursue cross country. The more she ran, the faster she fell in love with the sport.<\/p>\n

Now, her training includes running more than 30 miles a week.<\/p>\n

This past weekend, Jacobsen solidified her legacy as she joined hundreds of talented Hawaii high school athletes in the prestigious Hall of Honor.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cIt was so surreal because I was surrounded by some of the most accomplished people in the state, like hearing what they\u2019ve all done, it\u2019s like crazy to even be up here with them,\u201d said Jacobsen.<\/p>\n

Danielle Jacobsen said the call about her daughter\u2019s induction was a moment the family won\u2019t forget.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was just so excited, because we look back at some of the people that we saw inducted before, and we\u2019re just like you\u2019re sitting up here in the same league as these people and you deserve it,\u201d Danielle Jacobsen said.<\/p>\n

In the fall, Jacobsen will join the track and cross country team at the University of San Francisco.<\/p>\n

As for what she\u2019s looking forward to most: not having to run in the hot Ewa Beach sun.<\/p>\n
