HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – If you order groceries online, a new Instacart partnership is offering a quick way to donate food to local families in need this summer.<\/p>\n

The company launched its Summer Hunger Community Carts campaign Monday, partnering with Feeding America to support 300 food banks and partner agencies nationwide, including the Hawaii Foodbank.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a simple and convenient way for local folks to donate to the Hawaii Foodbank right from their phone,\u201d said Tracilyn Alo, the nonprofit\u2019s director of communications. \u201cRather than make the physical donation or actually having to go online to make a monetary donation, they\u2019re just adding to their regular shopping.\u201d <\/p>\n

Instacart will waive all service and deliveries fees on donated items. <\/p>\n

One in three households in Hawaii struggles with hunger, which includes about 80,000 keiki, Foodbank officials said. They note the need increases among keiki during the summer months when school is out of session. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to make sure that we can meet or exceed the amount of children that we\u2019re feeding over the summer to get them through to the next school year,\u201d Alo said. <\/p>\n

Alo says while the partnership makes giving convenient, monetary donations are most impactful.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe financial donations always stretch a little further,\u201d she said. \u201cFor every case of spam that someone goes out and purchases on their own, we could have bought five.\u201d<\/p>\n
