WAIMEA (HawaiiNewsNow) – Hawaii Island Mayor Kimo Alameda and county department leaders will meet with the Waimea community later this week.<\/p>\n

After the earthquake last week, the community has been reporting water and other issues.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, leaders will gather at the W. M. Keck Observatory Headquarters\u2019 Jerry Nelson Conference Room from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for the Waimea Community Association\u2019s monthly town meeting.<\/p>\n

The association said residents will hear directly from Alameda and department leaders from finance, parks, planning, research and development, sustainability, water and other issues impacting the island.<\/p>\n

The meeting will also provide updates on county projects and priorities, and residents will have the chance to ask questions during an extended Q&A session, organizers said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving direct access to the mayor and county department heads is incredibly valuable for our community,\u201d said Nancy Carr Smith, president of the Waimea Community Association. \u201cThis meeting gives residents the chance to hear firsthand what is happening at the county level and better understand the challenges and opportunities facing our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Residents are asked to attend in person because the meeting will not be livestreamed. The association said some portions of the meeting will be filled for later viewing.<\/p>\n

The county will also honor beloved community member Pastor Sione Tilini.<\/p>\n

He died after his grandson\u2019s car was hit by a man accused of driving under the influence while he was helping change his grandson\u2019s tire.<\/p>\n

Waimea\u2019s newly appointed police captain will also be introduced at the meeting.<\/p>\n
