WAIMEA BAY (HawaiiNewsNow) – Traffic conditions are easing on Kamehameha Highway Friday as crew wrap up a big phase of rockfall protection work in the area. <\/p>\n

The Hawaii Department of Transportation says that installation of the first delivery of rockfall protection netting is complete. <\/p>\n

As a result, crews will remove barriers and shorten the length of the contra-flowed single lane on Kamehameha Highway at Waimea Bay to 300 feet.<\/p>\n

The second and last delivery of netting is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, to avoid Father\u2019s Day. <\/p>\n

There will be a full closure of Kamehameha Highway, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., for the helicopter delivery that day, depending on weather conditions. <\/p>\n

Emergency vehicles will be granted coordinated access through the work zone during the closure. <\/p>\n

Once the netting arrives at the site, crews will begin securing it to pre-drilled anchors in the slope. <\/p>\n

Kamehameha Highway at Waimea Bay will be restored to two lanes of traffic flow once the final netting is installed. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, crews are working on installing 500 feet of impact fencing on the Haleiwa side of the work zone.<\/p>\n

That work is expected to wrap up at the same time as the netting installation on the Waimea Bay side. <\/p>\n
