{"id":761,"date":"2026-05-30T12:41:03","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T12:41:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=761"},"modified":"2026-05-30T12:41:03","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T12:41:03","slug":"changed-countless-lives-hawaii-psychiatrist-nationally-recognized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=761","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Changed countless lives\u2019: Hawaii psychiatrist nationally recognized"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section>\n<p>HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; A Hawaii doctor was nationally recognized Friday for his work improving the lives of Hawaii residents with mental health conditions. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=759\">Hawaii Democratic Party convention underway in Waikiki<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The National Alliance on Mental Illness awarded the 2026 NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist Award to Hawaii psychiatrist Dr. Chad Koyanagi.<\/p>\n<p>Koyanagi has served Hawaii as a street psychiatrist for those facing mental illness, psychosis, homelessness, and have barriers to traditional treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The award recognizes psychiatrists who demonstrate extraordinary compassion, leadership, and dedication to individuals and families affected by mental illness.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Koyanagi played a key role in developing and opening Hawaii\u2019s first Behavioral Health Crisis Center in Iwilei, which provides treatment for some of Hawaii\u2019s most vulnerable residents.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=757\">Cycle City hit, motorcycles stolen in pre-dawn smash-and-grab<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The center offers an alternative to emergency rooms and incarceration for patients dealing with psychiatric crises. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Chad does work most people could never imagine doing,\u201d said Anisa Wiseman, Deputy Director of NAMI Hawaii. \u201cHe continues showing up for people our systems have often left behind, even in the most difficult situations.
