HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – For any high school athlete, signing a national letter of intent is a milestone moment.<\/p>\n

Seabury Hall basketball player Sebastian Peterson said signing with Chaminade University was a full-circle moment, joining a program he grew up watching.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a \u2018can\u2019t believe it was happening\u2019 moment, but I\u2019m happy I\u2019ve done it,\u201d Peterson told Hawaii News Now. \u201cI\u2019m happy I\u2019m committed, so I can\u2019t wait to play next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peterson was a regular at the Maui Invitational, a college basketball tournament Chaminade hosts at the Lahaina Civic Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching the Silverswords play, it was like an amazing feeling,\u201d Peterson said. \u201cNow I realize that I can play on that court next year, and I\u2019m going to be there representing my hometown in Hawaii. It\u2019s gonna be an awesome feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

He often didn\u2019t just watch the games.<\/p>\n

\u201cI practically grew up on that court,\u201d Peterson said. \u201cEvery year I\u2019ve been a ball boy. Every year I\u2019ve helped out, helped with the breakdowns. From ages 5 to 13, I was probably on that court, sweeping up the sweat in those games.\u201d<\/p>\n

One chapter closes, another opens<\/h1>\n

Peterson is closing his chapter at Seabury Hall after helping the Spartans reach the last three HHSAA Division II state championship games, including a title his junior year.<\/p>\n

He said he hopes to be an example for young athletes on Maui and across the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe their role model to look up to and have all those kids come out and watch me play, watch me represent,\u201d Peterson said. \u201cThey can look up to me, representing Maui and Hawaii especially.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even though Chaminade only plays in the Maui Invitational every other year, Peterson is hoping to use the opportunity to highlight Hawaii\u2019s homegrown talent.<\/p>\n

\u201cHawaii and Maui kids all have that skill level to play at any collegiate level, and I just want to help that,\u201d Peterson said. \u201cI just want to help us and showcase that to the whole world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peterson credits his success to the support of his family, and said he can\u2019t wait to don the Silverswords uniform.<\/p>\n
