WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui police arrested a congressional candidate after he allegedly threatened Maui County workers with a firearm in Wailuku on Friday.<\/p>\n

According to the Maui Police Department, at around 9:30 a.m., Congressional candidate Kirill Basin, 40, of Kihei, allegedly entered a county building located off Main Street while brandishing a firearm and had a verbal altercation with county employees.<\/p>\n

The altercation was reported to police shortly before 11 a.m. <\/p>\n

MPD said officers responded within five minutes and implemented a partial lockdown while officers searched for Basin.<\/p>\n

An all-points bulletin was issued, and police located Basin in Kihei at around 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Maui police said the preliminary investigation revealed that on Wednesday, during a South Maui town hall meeting, Basin was involved in a verbal altercation with council member Tom Cook and staff members. Officers escorted him out of the meeting.<\/p>\n

Basin was arrested for terroristic threatening in the first degree. Police said additional charges are pending review.<\/p>\n

MPD said the investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.<\/p>\n
