HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – This Memorial Day in Hawai\u02bbi will feature breezy trade winds, passing windward showers, and a meaningful evening of remembrance during the Lantern Floating Festival at Ala Moana Beach Park.<\/p>\n

A broad ridge of high pressure north of the islands will keep moderate to locally strong easterly trade winds in place through the holiday. Those trades, combined with an upper-level trough near the state, will continue to bring occasional showers \u2014 mainly to windward and mauka communities. <\/p>\n

Most leeward areas should stay relatively dry, though brief passing showers are still possible.<\/p>\n

The First alert team has slightly increased expected wind speeds after newer high-resolution models suggested stronger trades than previously forecast. While some of the windiest spots could see near-advisory gusts, widespread damaging winds are not expected.For those heading out to beaches, parks, or outdoor Memorial Day gatherings, expect breezy conditions statewide with rough surf continuing along east-facing shores. South shore surf will gradually build again this week as a fresh long-period south swell arrives.<\/p>\n

At Ala Moana Beach Park, thousands are expected to gather Monday evening for the annual Lantern Floating Hawai\u02bbi ceremony hosted by Shinnyo-en. The event honors loved ones who have passed and serve as a powerful Memorial Day tradition in Hawai\u02bbi, blending remembrance, reflection, and community healing.<\/p>\n

Weather conditions for the ceremony look generally favorable, though attendees should still prepare for gusty trade winds and a few passing showers nearby. Winds may create some choppy conditions along the shoreline, but no major weather disruptions are anticipated at this time.On the water, Small Craft Advisories remain posted for many Hawaiian waters and channels due to the strong trades. Boaters should use caution, especially in typically windy areas around Maui County and the Big Island.<\/p>\n
