HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An Oregon teen is back on land after sailing solo from California to Hawaii.<\/p>\n

Ollie Bergquist set foot on land Monday after 20 days at sea.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s crazy,\u201d said Bergquist. \u201cI did not think all of you guys would be here. I thought it would be like 10 people.\u201d<\/p>\n

His mom, Tia Bergquist, said, \u201cIt\u2019s Memorial Day and I was just thinking how grateful I am to the men and women who gave their life so my son can live his dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bergquist sailed from Northern California to Honolulu, documenting his solo journey on Instagram. His daily video updates gained traction from viewers across the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he was late posting or something, I would start getting worried,\u201d said Tia Bergquist. \u201cI pretty much saw what you guys saw. Once in a while I would get a text saying, \u2018I\u2019m OK, Mom.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Tia Bergquist says her son\u2019s dream to sail across the world started when he was 13. She said she thought he would eventually outgrow it \u2014 until he drove to British Columbia to buy a boat at 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cI bought Covenant. It\u2019s previous name was Millennium Dragon, so that had to go,\u201d said Ollie Bergquist.<\/p>\n

Bergquist\u2019s trek through the Pacific was his third journey with Covenant \u2014 and the toughest one yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first three days, I was puking my guts out,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn\u2019t know if I can keep food down. I might have to turn to San Francisco if I can\u2019t get used to this.\u201d<\/p>\n

But he quickly got the hang of life at sea, which included catching his own dinner.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was sitting in my cockpit and the rod start spinning,\u201d Bergquist said. \u201cSo I started reeling it and was like, \u2018Oh, this may be a piece of trash,\u2019 and then I saw it and was like, \u2018Oh, this is so cool.\u2019 Plate it up and it gave me a lot of motivation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Oregon native also celebrated another milestone at sea: turning 18 years old.<\/p>\n

Bergquist said he plans to stay in Hawaii for a while and eventually wants to sail to Fiji. <\/p>\n
