HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii Tourism Authority announced Thursday that they are looking for a new president and CEO.<\/p>\n

HTA is accepting applications to lead the state agency, which is responsible for strategizing and managing tourism in the Hawaiian Islands. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an important leadership moment for Hawaii\u2019s visitor industry and for our state,\u201d said James Tokioka, director of the state Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, commonly referred to as DBEDT. <\/p>\n

Established by the Hawaii State Legislature in 1998, HTA plays a role in Hawaii\u2019s visitor industry, which is the state\u2019s largest private-sector economic driver in the state. <\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

HTA works to balance bolstering Hawaii\u2019s economy with community priorities, cultural values, and stewardship of natural resources, through brand marketing, destination management, visitor experience development, and oversight of the Hawaii Convention Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next president and CEO of HTA will help guide how tourism supports our economy, our communities and our long-term future,\u201d Tokioka said. \u201cWe are looking for a thoughtful, collaborative leader, who understands Hawaii and can build strong relationships across government, industry, and our island communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president and CEO is responsible for carrying out the policies and directives of the HTA Advisory Board, the Governor, and DBEDT. <\/p>\n

The position also oversees strategic planning, community engagement, fiscal management, contract oversight, and organizational leadership.<\/p>\n

The ideal candidate to lead HTA is someone with executive-level leadership experience in tourism, destination management, economic development, or a related field, and experience working with government agencies, boards, or legislative bodies. <\/p>\n

Applicants should demonstrate communication and relationship-building skills, operational and fiscal management experience, and an understanding of Hawaii\u2019s unique cultural and community landscape.<\/p>\n
