HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – On Wednesday, the Honolulu police Traffic Division was notified by the Medical Examiner\u2019s Office that the 93-year-old driver involved in a crash earlier in May had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

This is the 15th traffic fatality of 2026, as compared to 30 at the same time in 2025.<\/p>\n

On May 11, 2026, at about 12 p.m., a critical motor vehicle collision occurred on the North King St off-ramp of the Moanalua Freeway eastbound, in the Kalihi area.<\/p>\n

It was reported to the Honolulu Police Department that a 93-year-old man was driving westbound in the wrong direction towards eastbound traffic on the North King Street off-ramp and struck a 41-year-old man who was driving eastbound.<\/p>\n

As a result of the collision, the 93-year-old man was transported via Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital in critical condition.<\/p>\n

The 41-year-old male motorist complained of pain but refused treatment at the scene.<\/p>\n

The 93-year-old motorist and the 41-year-old motorist were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.<\/p>\n

At this time, speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor to this collision.<\/p>\n
