HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The City and County of Honolulu helped to raise more than 170,000 meals for the Hawaii Foodbank. <\/p>\n

In 2024, 32 percent of Hawaii households were food insecure, and 34 percent of keiki experienced food insecurity, according to the Hawaii Foodbank. <\/p>\n

The City hosted an inaugural food truck event, Hale Eats, at Honolulu Hale last month to raise funds and collect donations for families in need.<\/p>\n

Their initial goal for this year\u2019s food drive was to reach 110,000 meals, but they surpassed it by a whopping 61,513. <\/p>\n

\u201c11% of food-insecure households went a whole day without eating food at least once during the year. 247,000 individuals on Oahu were food insecure,\u201d said President and CEO of Hawaii Foodbank, Amy Miller. \u201cWe are so appreciative because our wonderful partners at the City and the State are helping us confront these challenges head-on, while we work toward a day when the Foodbank is no longer necessary.\u201d <\/p>\n

In partnership with the State of Hawaii, the drive included a convoy of City and State vehicles that delivered the final food donations to the Foodbank. <\/p>\n

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply surpassed the other city departments, raising 28,092 meals for those in need. On a per-employee basis, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation raised the most with 21,010 meals in total and at a ratio of 456 meals per employee. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe could not be more proud of the men and women that work at the City and their tremendous generosity, because they stepped up and took our annual food drive to another level this year,\u201d said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. \u201cTheir commitment to the people of our communities is simply inspiring, and their ability to raise more than 170,000 meals is a direct reflection of their heart and character.\u201d <\/p>\n
