{"id":2999,"date":"2026-07-24T10:36:58","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T10:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=2999"},"modified":"2026-07-24T10:36:58","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T10:36:58","slug":"cape-air-makes-case-for-lanai-air-service-contract-despite-no-hawaii-flights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=2999","title":{"rendered":"Cape Air makes case for Lanai air service contract despite no Hawaii flights"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section>\n<p>HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; Three airlines are vying for the contract to provide essential air service to Lanai: current provider Mokulele Airlines, Pacific Air Charters, and Cape Air. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=2997\">Kahaluu man charged in fatal 2025 Kaneohe hit-and-run<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unlike the other two contenders, Massachusetts-based Cape Air has not flown in Hawaii skies. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot being flying in Hawaii, that\u2019s a very, very good point,\u201d Cape Air president Mike Migliore acknowledged. <\/p>\n<p>While not operating in the islands, Cape Air is familiar with the market, having scouted Lanai in 2024. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Back then, the other two airlines also submitted bids for the federally subsidized service, which Mokulele clinched. <\/p>\n<p>Hawaii News Now reported on Mokulele and Pacific Air on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Migliore sought an opportunity to also publicly share why he believes Cape Air deserves the agreement. <\/p>\n<p>When asked whether he feels the airline is at a disadvantage because of its lack of experience in Hawaii skies, Migliore replied, \u201cAnytime we\u2019ve gone into a community for the first time, they say that. \u2018Well, you haven\u2019t been in Montana before. You haven\u2019t been in the Caribbean before.\u2019 And when we do, we show that we are a community-focused airline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=2995\">Hawaii teen with leukemia gets college tuition wish granted<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cape Air has met with the Lanai community several times in the past year, and compares the island to the Caribbean \u2014 one of the 12 essential air service locations it serves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll over order, short stage lengths, we\u2019ve been in the Caribbean since the mid-1990s, and we specialize in serving smaller communities,\u201d the airline\u2019s president explained. <\/p>\n<p>Migliore mentions the company hires from the communities it serves, which aviation expert Peter Forman says is especially essential for Lanai.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re going to have to go ahead and hire crews, and those crews [need] experience with the nuances of flying in Hawaii.
