HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – For the third year in a row, Edo Tanas was the first to cross the finish line at Kaimana Beach in the third annual Moloka\u02bbi-2-O\u02bbahu Foil World Championships Monday.<\/p>\n

He completed the 40-plus-mile Kaiwi Channel crossing in 2 hours and 13 minutes, about 17 minutes off his own world record. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a real emotional one. I never cried at a finish line, and this is the first time that ever happened for me,\u201d Tanas said. \u201cIt really means the world to me to be able to do it again, and just to prove that everyone that supported me and put in the work with me, it was all worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The women\u2019s winner was Annie Reickert of Maui, who finished in 2 hours and 52 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably one of the harder physical things I\u2019ve done in a really, really long time,\u201d Reickert said.<\/p>\n

Reickert said she was adjusting her equipment shortly before the start.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was changing my front wing 10 minutes before the race, because I was looking out there thinking this is not gonna be what we think it is,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Reickert was one of three women who finished. <\/p>\n

Race organizers said 65 men finished the course, and dozens more did not make it.<\/p>\n

Light wind made it difficult for riders to catch open-ocean swells, organizers said.<\/p>\n
