LAS VEGAS (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Old Trapper Mountain West Football Media Days concluded in Las Vegas Thursday.<\/p>\n

Day two started early Thursday morning with a group picture of all 10 head football coaches. Two of them are University of Hawaii graduates: the school\u2019s current head coach Timmy Chang and San Jos\u00e9 State\u2019s Ken Niumatalolo.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 3, Niumatalolo and his Spartans will travel to Manoa to face Chang\u2019s Rainbow Warriors.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the one time of the year where we gotta go against each other,\u201d said Chang. \u201cThe rest of the time we\u2019re rooting for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be an exciting time, but I also know that Timmy has done a great job there,\u201d said Niumatalolo. \u201cI\u2019ve seen the crowds there. Earlier maybe the crowds aren\u2019t as big, but every game that I\u2019ve seen on tape, the crowds are packed. The stadium is packed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Niumatalolo\u2019s staff consists of a handful of former \u2018Bows, including Brian Norwood, and Craig and Billy Ray Stutzmann. <\/p>\n

Chang said, \u201cCoach Kenny, can\u2019t say enough great things about him. Coach Stutz, Billy Ray, those guys they are family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adding to those stakes is former UH quarterback Luke Weaver, who threw the game-winning touchdown in the Hawaii Bowl and announced his transfer to San Jos\u00e9 State in the offseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cI talked to him in his visit and I asked him, \u2018Hey, why are you coming here?\u2019 I was impressed that he didn\u2019t have anything bad to say about Hawaii,\u201d Niumatalolo said. \u201cHe just talked about, \u2018Hey, I just want a chance to play. I\u2019m excited about an opportunity.\u2019 It was more about him and not any negativity.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the Spartans are waiting for fall camp to name a starting quarterback, their staff has been thoroughly impressed with what they\u2019ve seen out of Weaver so far this summer.<\/p>\n
