HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Breezy trade winds remain the main weather story across the islands and will continue through the weekend as a strong area of high pressure stays anchored far north of the state. Expect the typical summer pattern with passing showers favoring windward and mauka communities, especially across the Big Island and Maui County today and tonight. Oahu may catch a few passing showers, but many leeward locations will stay mostly dry.<\/p>\n

Another pocket of moisture is expected to arrive Sunday, bringing another round of trade wind showers to the state. While a few showers could briefly become moderate, the atmosphere remains fairly stable, so widespread heavy rain or thunderstorms are not expected. Looking into next week, trade winds ease just a bit but remain locally breezy, with the usual windward showers continuing. Boaters should continue to use caution. <\/p>\n

Fresh to strong trade winds have prompted a Small Craft Advisory for all Hawaiian waters through Friday evening, and it may be extended into the weekend. <\/p>\n

East shores will remain rough and choppy from the persistent trades. South shore surf will gradually transition from the current south-southwest swell to a new long-period southwest swell arriving this weekend. <\/p>\n

Small west swells generated by Typhoon Bavi will also bring a slight bump to west-facing shores, while north shores stay nearly flat.<\/p>\n

One thing to keep an eye on this weekend is the arrival of King Tides<\/b>. Higher-than-normal high tides beginning Sunday and lasting into early next week could lead to minor coastal flooding in low-lying shoreline areas, particularly during the daily high tide cycles. <\/p>\n

We are keeping an eye on the Pacific, but there is no major threat, there is the possibility of development within the next several days as warm ocean waters continue to bring fuel for storms to potentially be born over the Eastern Pacific.<\/p>\n

Looking farther ahead, forecasters are also watching the tropics south and southeast of Hawaii. While there\u2019s no immediate threat, tropical moisture could become more active later next week, potentially leading to a wetter trade wind pattern across the islands.<\/p>\n
