HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department (HOSD) had a busy Saturday, responding to multiple incidents as thousands celebrated Independence Day.<\/p>\n

HOSD said as of 5 p.m., crews did 46 rescues, conducted 7,772 preventative actions and responded to a near-drowning.<\/p>\n

The department said lifeguards assisted two people after their 10-foot boat overturned offshore of Papailoa Beach.<\/p>\n

At Alan Davis Beach, lifeguards said they rescued two people using foil boards.<\/p>\n

In Waikiki, Ocean Safety said they treated two women, 22 and 18, who suffered head injuries after they were hit by a canoe in separate incidents.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in Ala Moana, HOSD said lifeguards administered Narcan to a 34-year-old woman who nearly drowned.<\/p>\n

Care was transferred to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services. No word on her condition at this time.<\/p>\n

Ocean Safety said they rescued two adults aboard a disabled personal watercraft one to two miles offshore from Black Point and safely towed the jet ski back to shore.<\/p>\n

The department reminds the public that changing ocean conditions, strong currents, shorebreak and crowded beaches can quickly create hazardous situations. <\/p>\n

Beachgoers are urged to remain aware of their surroundings, supervise children and not to go into the ocean if it exceeds their abilities.<\/p>\n

Honolulu Ocean Safety said lifeguards will continue to staff beaches throughout the holiday.<\/p>\n
