HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Native Hawaiian families whose homes were impacted by the Kona low storms will be able to apply for financial aid Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs is offering up to $15,000 to eligible homeowners, while renters may receive up to $7,500.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know recovery can feel overwhelming, especially for families still trying to navigate damage, financial hardship, and uncertainty,\u201c said Kaiali\u02bbi Kahele, chair of OHA. \u201dWe want impacted families to know that help is here.\u201d<\/p>\n

The March 2026 Kona Low General Disaster Assistance Program is available to Native Hawaiians living in Hawaii who have experienced major damage or total loss to their primary home due to the storms.<\/p>\n

Applications may be submitted online Saturday, May 16, at 9 a.m.<\/p>\n

In-person submissions are available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following locations:<\/p>\n

Oahu:<\/b><\/p>\n

Maui:<\/b><\/p>\n

Moloka\u2019i:<\/b><\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Applicants are encouraged to bring documentation proving residency and storm-related damage before applying. Help is available at in-person sites for those submitting applications.<\/p>\n

The Hawaiian Council, which is administering the program, found that 86 percent of survey respondents reported having no flood insurance.<\/p>\n
