HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A new shuttle program is launching to support the economic recovery of Oahu\u2019s North Shore following the March Kona Low storms.<\/p>\n

The Hawaiian Council, in partnership with the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, E Noa Tours and the Hawaii Tourism Authority, announced North Shore Huakai, a 90-day pilot program beginning Monday, June 29.<\/p>\n

The initiative encourages visitors and kamaaina to spend time in Haleiwa and Waialua, supporting locally owned businesses while learning about the area\u2019s history and culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cRecovery is also about restoring the economic vitality of our communities,\u201d Hawaiian Council CEO Kuhio Lewis said. \u201cEvery dollar spent locally helps support families, strengthen our communities, and move recovery forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

For $5 roundtrip, participants can take a full-day, culturally guided tour with stops in Waialua and Haleiwa. Riders will also receive a North Shore Passport highlighting participating businesses, with proof of purchase required to board the return shuttle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Kona Low storms devastated North Shore communities during one of our most important travel periods,\u201d HVCB President and CEO Dr. Aaron J. Sal\u0101 said. \u201cEvery stop on the North Shore Huakai is a local business, every local business is a local family, and every local family carries a story with the power to transform how visitors come to know Hawaii.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shuttle will operate daily for 90 days, with departures from Waikiki and Ko Olina. Reservations can be made online or by phone.<\/p>\n
