HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says Kilauea\u2019s next eruption, Episode 50, will likely occur on Friday.<\/p>\n

If the eruption occurs, ash and tephra could fall downwind. Officials said low-level winds are expected to push tephra west of the summit, though it could also move north into communities along Highway 11.<\/p>\n

Officials urged people living downwind of Kilauea\u2019s summit to be ready to take precautions if needed, including disconnecting water catchment systems. People with respiratory sensitivities should avoid the area.<\/p>\n

Drivers should watch for tephra on roadways, which can reduce visibility and cause traffic slowdowns. Officials said there is no threat to communities at this time.<\/p>\n
