HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – At approximately 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, the Honolulu Ocean Safety Department responded to two distressed divers approximately one-half mile offshore of Wailupe Beach Park in Aina Haina.<\/p>\n

The divers were having trouble returning to their vessel after it drifted an estimated 1,000 yards away from their location.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, two off-duty Ocean Safety lifeguards who were paddling in the area spotted the divers and recognized they needed assistance. The lifeguards contacted emergency responders using an Apple Watch and remained with the divers until rescue personnel arrived on scene.<\/p>\n

Ocean Safety rescue operators responded, located the divers, and safely transported them back to their vessel. No injuries were reported, and no further assistance was required.<\/p>\n

The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department commends the actions of the off-duty lifeguards, whose vigilance and quick response helped ensure a safe outcome.<\/p>\n
