HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Keeping an eye on the radar for periodic showers today into tomorrow as a disturbance brings us some heavy pockets of rain over windward and mauka neighborhoods and drifting to leeward sides at times. An increase in moisture through Wednesday will cause showers to increase over windward and mauka areas. Limited spillover is possible to leeward areas. Drier conditions should arrive late Wednesday and remain through Saturday. Showers, some briefly heavy, have been moving across most islands in the trades this afternoon. So far, Kauai has been the driest, but moisture is moving west and we expect them to pick up additional showers through the evening and overnight. Winds were averaging 10 to 15 mph, with gusts 20 to 30 mph in the usual spots, through mid-afternoon.<\/p>\n

Outdoor events across Hawaii this week should generally have favorable weather, despite an increase in trade wind showers through Wednesday. The wettest conditions will be focused along windward and mauka areas, where periods of passing showers and cloudy skies are expected. Most of the showers will be brief, however, allowing plenty of dry time for festivals, farmers markets, outdoor concerts, and community gatherings.<\/p>\n

On Oahu, popular outdoor activities in Honolulu, Waikiki, and Kapolei should see mostly dry conditions with plenty of sunshine. Windward communities such as Kailua and Kaneohe will have a higher chance of showers, especially during the mornings and evenings, but rain is not expected to be heavy enough to significantly disrupt most events.<\/p>\n

Bon dance season continues across the islands this week, along with outdoor markets, cultural performances, and summer community celebrations. The strengthening trade winds may create breezy conditions at times, particularly in exposed areas, but they will also help keep temperatures comfortable for anyone spending time outdoors.<\/p>\n

For beachgoers and surf enthusiasts, south shore surf will build Wednesday and peak Thursday as a new south swell arrives. East-facing shores will also see a bump in surf as the trade winds strengthen. Anyone attending oceanfront events should be prepared for rougher conditions along some beaches later this week.<\/p>\n

The best weather of the week arrives by Friday and continues through the weekend as drier air moves into the islands. Shower activity is expected to decrease, skies should become sunnier, and outdoor conditions will improve statewide. If you have plans for a festival, family gathering, hike, or beach day, the weekend is looking especially promising<\/p>\n
