HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Hawaii Kai Lions Club continued its annual tradition of celebrating fathers at Kaiser High School.<\/p>\n

During the 53rd Annual Father\u2019s Day Breakfast, Hawaii Lions Club said it served more than 4,000 breakfast meals Sunday, in one of the state\u2019s largest drive-thru events.<\/p>\n

Those 4,000 meals included 8,000 eggs, 20,000 Portuguese-sausage slices and 8,000 scoops of fried rice, organizers said.<\/p>\n

More than 200 of the meals also went to the Institute for Human Services.<\/p>\n

Hawaii Lion District Gov. Sean Benitio has been part of the event for four years, but his first out front, \u201cseeing everybody… wishing us happy Father\u2019s Day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up not in a rich family, like a pretty poor family. We didn\u2019t know where our next meals were coming from, and so seeing the Lions Club and the effects that we have on our community itself really hits my heart,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Hawaii Lions said proceeds will support Kaiser High School\u2019s meal program, vision and hearing screenings, youth programs and the Annual Hawaii Kai Christmas Parade. <\/p>\n

Hawaii Lions is also celebrating its 100th year of service in Hawaii, with a celebration on Friday, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n
