{"id":1657,"date":"2026-06-21T05:34:36","date_gmt":"2026-06-21T05:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=1657"},"modified":"2026-06-21T05:34:36","modified_gmt":"2026-06-21T05:34:36","slug":"pedestrian-seriously-injured-in-crash-on-kauai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=1657","title":{"rendered":"Pedestrian seriously injured in crash on Kauai"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<section>\n<p>LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; A pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash on Kauai along the Kuhio Highway Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=1655\">Firefighters contain wildfire in Makaha<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The crash happened at about 10:45 p.m., near the intersection of Laukona Street and Kuhio Highway.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Kauai Police Department, a 58-year-old Hanamalulu man was walking westbound along the eastbound shoulder of the highway and was hit by a 2008 Toyota van driven by a 77-year-old Kapaa man while attempting to cross the road.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the pedestrian was initially taken to Wilcox Medical Center in critical but stable condition. Toxicology results are pending.<\/p>\n<p>Kuhio Highway was closed for about two and a half hours while police conducted the on-scene investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call Officer Russell Himongala at (808) 241-1617.
