A weak trough drifting northwest of the islands will keep a little extra moisture around through Friday, bringing a few more showers at times. Overall, though, winds remain fairly light, allowing local sea breezes to take over during the day and land breezes at night. That means the best chance for clouds and a few showers will be across interior and leeward communities each afternoon, with skies clearing out again overnight.

Read more California club hosts artistic swimming competition at UH Manoa

The weekend forecast stays similar, with a mix of light east-southeast winds, afternoon cloud build-ups, and spotty showers. It will also feel a bit muggy, as humidity levels remain elevated through Saturday.

While most areas will see plenty of dry weather, a few passing showers are possible statewide, especially during the afternoon hours.

Looking ahead to next week, trade winds gradually return and strengthen to moderate and locally breezy levels. That will bring a more familiar summer pattern back to the islands, with showers favoring windward and mauka areas while leeward communities turn drier. The stronger trades should also help lower humidity levels, providing some relief from the recent muggy conditions.

For beachgoers, a long-period south swell remains elevated today. A High Surf Advisory continues for south-facing shores through early Friday morning, with surf expected to gradually ease below advisory levels by the end of the day Friday.

Read more Hawaiian leader introduces former President Obama during center’s opening

Smaller south swells will keep surf near seasonal levels through much of next week. East shore surf remains small for now but may tick up slightly by the middle of next week as trade winds strengthen across the region.

North shore surf stays tiny through the forecast period.

For Father’s Day weekend, expect warm and humid conditions with light winds, plenty of sunshine, and the usual afternoon clouds and isolated showers developing over interior and leeward areas.
