HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Lawmakers are helping Manoa prepare for the next emergency.<\/p>\n

It comes after the March Kona low storms brought heavy rain, flooding homes and schools.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, a forum was held at Noelani Elementary School. <\/p>\n

Organizers said the meeting aimed to provide information to prepare for weather emergencies or other public safety threats, as well as to highlight \u201clessons learned\u201d from the recent flooding.<\/p>\n

As residents continue to recover, they also expressed the need for better gauges in the Manoa Stream and a better notification system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese events are happening on a more frequent basis, and of course we want government to step up to assist, but ultimately they might not be able to reach every single person,\u201d said state Rep. Andrew Takuya Garrett, D, Manoa. \u201cIt\u2019s important that these constituents of our take the onus and the initiative to prepare on their own.\u201d<\/p>\n

It also featured representatives from the state\u2019s departments of transportation and emergency management, alongside the city\u2019s departments of emergency management, facility maintenance and weather monitoring service.<\/p>\n

Residents are also urged to sign up for the city\u2019s severe weather alerts at HNLAlert.gov.<\/p>\n
