HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The name of the U.S. military\u2019s unified command for the Pacific region has changed.<\/p>\n

The Pentagon Tuesday announced the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACCOM) would go back to its previous name, U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM).<\/p>\n

According to the military the name was changed in 2018 to reflect the growing connectivity between the Indian and Pacific Ocean regions. Pentagon officials say restoring the name honors the command\u2019s deep historical roots.<\/p>\n

The headquarters for the command are located on Camp Smith in Halawa. It was originally established by President Harry S. Truman in 1947, and is one of the nation\u2019s oldest and largest combatant commands. <\/p>\n
