It didn\u2019t feel like the road was easy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When the going got tough, the Moanalua High School graduate remembered why he fell in love with soccer in the first place.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>He said it started at 12 years old, watching the 1994 World Cup in California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust looking around like, \u2018Wow this is crazy.\u2019 Just the buzz, the energy, that was probably one of the biggest influential moments,\u201d said Treschuk.<\/p>\n<p>That lit a fire under Treschuk, who graduated from Penn State and \u2014 after challenging stints overseas \u2014 made the Seattle Sounders roster in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing to Europe and saying I\u2019m an American player for one, it wasn\u2019t respected well. Then saying I\u2019m from Hawaii, they\u2019re like \u2018What do you play with, coconuts?\u2019\u201d said Treschuk.<\/p>\n<p>Treschuk\u2019s determination made him the Sounders\u2019 enforcer on the way to a United Soccer Leagues First Division title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur banners still up in the stadium. It\u2019s pretty cool,\u201d said Treschuk. \u201cI kind of looked at it like I paved the way for some, making it easier hopefully for some of the other kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaiimovinginsider.com\/?p=1457\">Major Jeep recall impacts Hawaii rental business as fire risk prompts safety concerns<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After leaving Seattle for stops in Charleston and Hong Kong, it was time to come back home and share his knowledge with the next generation: the keiki at the Hawaii Rush Soccer Club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me it\u2019s raising humans, it\u2019s raising people to be great people, great humans because realistically majority of us are not even going to get to college, and an even a smaller percentage of that is gonna get to the pros,\u201d said Treschuk.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>This week, Coach Treschuk is taking over 60 players to compete in the SurfCup Northwest Tournament in Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>While they\u2019re there, the team will attend the United States versus Australia match on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>He hopes that some of the kids can gain the same inspiration he did at 12 years old.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing around all these people and all the different ethnic cultures, to me that lit a fire.
